College students love attending music festivals. A 2015 Nielsen report shows that individuals aged 18 to 34 represent the largest group of music festival attendees in the U.S., accounting for about 46% of the total.

To address the issue of high ticket costs for college students and the environmental impact of festivals, my team and I developed TicketTasker. Our app enables college students to earn free tickets by volunteering for eco-friendly tasks, such as trash cleanup, while also making new friends along the way.

As a Product Designer on the team, I pitched the Product idea to my teammates to work on for our final solution. I helped with user research, coming up with survey questions, and analyzing insights.

I came up with the key screens and features for the overall flow of the app. I led my team from low-fidelity sketches to come up with high-fidelity flows for the final application.

After examining the competitive landscape, we pinpointed opportunities that our solution could incorporate into our low-fidelity wireframes.

Challenges: Poor discoverability, committed to environmental relief, but don’t offer volunteer opportunities

Even though 38/45 respondents said they wouldn’t attend a music festival alone, 38/45 also were open making friends.

This metric revealed the potential for integrating social networking features similar to those in apps like Festigo, which facilitate connections among users attending the same festival.

Even though 18/45 respondents had heard about volunteering at music festivals, 44/45 have not volunteered at an event.

Although many respondents are aware of volunteering at festivals, few have actually participated. This may be due to unappealing tasks or difficulty in finding available opportunities. Our app aims to address this by serving as a streamlined platform for discovering eco-friendly and enjoyable volunteer opportunities at music festivals.

As a trash pickup volunteer, they play a vital role in protecting the environment. Major festivals generate up to 100 tons of waste daily, and their efforts help keep this trash out of landfills, where it can take decades to decompose.

Clean up

Clean up

As a cleanup volunteer, they are essential for preserving the environment and ensuring the success of future events by cleaning up after the festival is over.

Food stands

Food stands

As a volunteer at sustainability-focused food stands, they support vendors using compostable or biodegradable packaging and eliminating single-use plastics. Their efforts are key to reducing waste and enhancing recycling and composting at the festival.
